Abstract

1461810 Coagulating devices RICHARD WOLF GmbH 13 May 1974 [16 May 1973] 13115/76 Divided out of 1461809 Heading A5R A tissue coagulating device, Figure 1, comprises circular metallic plate electrodes 27, 28 mounted at the ends of electrically conductive springy wires 29, 30 respectively, the other ends of the wires 29, 30 being secured in an insulating holder 26 reciprocable within a barrel 24. Holder 26 is mounted in a guide piece 25 connected to a plug 31 for connection to a source of high frequency alternating current (not shown) by means of an actuating rod 33, the rod 33 being bonded at 34a to one arm of a resilient grip 34, the other arm of grip 34 being secured to the proximal end of barrel 24. Squeezing grip 34 causes the holder to move to the left, causing electrodes 27, 28 to emerge from the barrel and move apart until the wires 29, 30 abut an insulating extension 24a of the barrel. The plate electrodes may alternatively comprise insulating discs so that only the ends of the wires 29, 30 form the contact surfaces. In the embodiments of Figures 2 and 3, a projection on the upper electrode 35 or 37 engages a corresponding recess in the lower electrode 36 or 38.
