Alternating-current motors; conductors. - In asynchronous motors the secondary alternating- current resistance at starting and at large values of the slip is increased by the employment of twisted sub-divided conductors within the slots, the conductors being of such a cross-section that eddy currents can be produced therein. Magnetic layers may be inserted in the composite conductors to increase further the alternating-current resistance. Fig. 1 shows an armature the conductor, l1 - - l4 of which are wound round a flat core or, preferably, round a tube of iron &c. which is afterwards pressed flat, Figs. 2 and 3 ; a channel may be left to form a cooling duct. The magnetic insertions c may serve to conduct the current. The conductors are preferably soldered or welded together at the narrow edges to provide satisfactory circuits for the eddy currents,
