Abstract

122,689. Pieper, H. Jan. 28, 1918. Coils and conductors, securing in open stator or rotor slots. In one construction, Figs. 2 and 3, U-shaped pieces of insulated wire 5 of magnetic or non - magnetic metal are placed side by side in the slot 1 before the introduction of the coil 3; parts of the wire are forced into notches 2, 2<1> in the teeth by means of a tool 6, and the ends of the wires are bent over, as shown in Fig. 4. A wedge 7 of insulating material may be inserted between the coil and the wires. The humps 8, 8<1> on the wires which enter the notches 2, 2<1> may be formed previously to the introduction of the wires into the slots. The bent-over parts of the wires may be of decreasing crosssection towards the centre of the slot; they may be of unequal lengths. Each slot may have a single notch only. In another construction. Figs. 6 and 7, a continuous insulated wire 5 is wound spirally round the coil before placing the coil in the slot. a wedge 9 being inserted at the upper side. The coil is then placed in the slot, the wedge 9 is withdrawn, and the wire forced into the notches in the teeth. The wedge 9 may he in two parts which are drawn out in opposite directions. The coil and wire armouring may be impregnated with insulating material to prevent air spaces; the wire may be earthed at one end so that ozone is not produced.
