146,141. Farbenfabriken vorm. F. Bayer & Co. May 24, 1917, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Sulphur is obtained from hydrogen sulphide, or from gases such as illuminating gas which contain hydrogen sulphide, by mixing with air or oxygen or sulphur dioxide and bringing the mixture into contact with porous carbon, for example vegetable or animal charcoal. The reaction does not require any external heat. The sulphur is precipitated upon the carbon in the fused state or as flowers of sulphur, and is removed by sublimation or by extraction with a solvent.
