Abstract

1461256 Ventilators WEATHERSHIELDS Ltd 14 Jan 1974 [30 Jan 1973 1 March 1973] 57567/72 and 10158/73 Heading F4V [Also in Divisions E2 and B7] A ventilator or window, particularly for a vehicle roof, includes an aperture 2 defined in a panel 3 and a closure panel 1 which is movable between open and closed positions by at least one manually actuable toggle clamp 8 which is releasably connected between the panels by at least one manually releasable pin 22 or 24. The or each clamp has arms 11, 12 pivoted together by a pin 13, the arms being respectively pivotally connected to panels 1 and 3 by the manually releasable pins 22, 24. The arms each have two spaced limbs 15, 14 and an actuating handle 34 is mounted on pin 13 between the limbs. When toggle clamps are provided at opposite ends of the panel 1 they may be operated individually to tilt the panel or together to raise it in parallel fashion. Spring loaded struts 30 are provided at each side of the aperture and releasably engage brackets 32 on the panel 1. In one embodiment only one strut is provided at each side, these struts being oppositely directed. During vertical movement of the panel 1 the struts pass through over centre positions and hence urge panel 1 against panel 3 in the closed position and aid in the raising and holding open of the panel 1. The struts act to hold the panel 1 down even after release of the toggle clamps until the operator pushes upwardly on the handle 34 and moves the struts through the over centre position.
