Abstract

1460583 Nesting trolleys M J HUFFEY 15 May 1974 [6 March 1973] 10876/73 Heading B7B In a nesting trolley a rectangular platform 11 mounted on a wheeled support 14 has rising therefrom a rear wall 21 narrower than the front side of the platform and two side walls 22, 23 hinged at the front corners of the trolley and swingable inwardly about vertical axes to enable them to nest within the side walls of a second trolley. In a preferred embodiment the wheeled support comprises a U-shaped framework 18 whose opposite limbs converge towards the rear of the trolley. The panels 21, 22, 23 may be sheet metal, plywood, or welded metal mesh as shown. The sides 22, 23 are completed by wings 29 which wrap around the vertical side edges of the rear panel 21. The sides 22, 23 are shown as spaced apart upper and lower frames 27 although each could have a single frame with mesh extending from top to bottom provided the intermediate shelf 31 is dimensioned to allow inward swinging of the sides. The platform 11 has 3 hinged leaves 13, the forward two of which may be flipped over to rest on the rearmost fixed leaf for nesting. The intermediate shelf 31 is constructed in a similar manner to enable nesting. Spring means (not shown) bias the sides 22, 23 inwardly about pivots 26, and pin and slot connections 30 between the sides 22, 23 and the rear panel 21 limit inward and outward movement of the sides.
