Abstract

1460459 Individual verification system ATALLA TECHNOVATIONS CORP 21 Dec 1973 59381/73 Heading G4H A system for verifying the identity of an individual comprises means for generating a compiled code word from an individual code word allocated to him and a secret code word known only to and memorised by him. In one embodiment the compiled code word is generated by the apparatus of Fig. 2 and stored. When the individual wishes to effect a transaction he enters his individual and secret code words, and a compiled code word is generated, which is then compared with the stored word. In another embodiment for use with credit telephone systems, a compiled code word is generated from the individual's telephone number (his individual code word) and his secret code word, this compiled code word being printed on the individual's telephone credit card. To use the phone, the individual dials his telephone number, his secret code word, and his compiled code word; a compiled code word is generated from the input telephone number and secret code word, and this is compared at the telephone centre with the compiled code word input by the individual.
