Abstract

1460435 Street lighting systems NSF CONTROLS Ltd 2 May 1974 [3 May 1973] 21023/73 Heading H2H A system for controlling street lighting according to the presence or absence of daylight comprises a control element 10 which includes a heating element 1, a bimetallic disc 2 and a switch 5, the heating element 1 being connected in series with a photo-resistive cell 2 and a street light 4 in series with the switch 5, the two series circuits being connected in parallel across an A.C. supply. During daylight conditions the cell 2 assumes its low resistance value thus permitting a high current to flow in the element 1 causing the disc 3 to distort to open the switch 5 so de-energizing the light 4. During darkness the cell 2 reverts to a high resistance condition whereupon the element 1 cools down, the disc 3 assumes its normal condition, the switch 5 closes and the light 4 is energized.
