Abstract
1460397 Magnetic couplings USUI KOKUSAI SANGYO KK 10 Dec 1974 [17 June 1974] 53364/74 Heading H2A In a magnetic coupling comprising a permanent magnet rotor 3 and a hysteresis rotor 2, a magnetically conductive member 4 is mounted for rotation with the magnet rotor 3 but is movable relative to that rotor into a position wherein it short circuits the flux to prevent torque transmission. The magnet rotor shown comprises a plurality of angularly spaced, axially magnetized magnets M and the member 4 comprises an equal number of angularly spaced iron pieces 5, Fig. 2 (not shown). The member 4 is angularly movable relative to rotor 3 between a first position in which the iron pieces are axially aligned with magnets M (maximum torque transmission) and a second position in which each iron piece (5) bridges two adjacent magnets and so short circuits the flux (zero torque transmission). The position of the member 4 shown is controlled by a bi-metallic strip 8 to make the transmission of torque dependent on ambient temperature. Figs. 9 to 11 (all not shown) illustrate an embodiment having a cylindrical air gap.
