Abstract

1460190 N - Carbalkoxyalkyldithioureas and their herbicidal compositions CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 9 Aug 1974 [30 Nov 1973] 35283/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the general Formula I wherein R, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are independently H, C 1-6 alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy, mono or polycyclic C 3-10 cycloalkyl or mono or binuclear C 6-10 aryl or aralkyl optionally substituted by 1-4 substituents selected from F, Cl, Br, CF 3 , CCl 3 , NO 2 , C 1-4 alkyl and C 1-4 alkoxy; R 3 is C 1-6 alkyl and n is 1 or 2 which may be prepared by reacting a compound of Formula II with a mercapto alkanoate ester of Formula III HS(CH 2 ) n -CO 2 R<SP>3</SP> (III) in the presence of an acid acceptor. N - Chlorothio - N - methyl - N<SP>1</SP> - (2 - fluorophenyl)urea and N - chlorothio - N - methyl- N<SP>1</SP> - (3,4 - dichlorophenyl)urea are prepared by reaction of the corresponding N-methyl urea with SCl 2 . Herbicidal compositions comprise at least one compound of Formula I together with a biologically inert carrier therefor.
