Abstract

1460162 Bending TAPCO PRODUCTS CO Inc 28 Feb 1974 [1 March 1973] 9035/74 Heading B3E [Also in Division B6] A metal or vinyl sheet bender comprises first and second members 16, 17 hinged together, the first offering a workpiece clamping surface and the second a bending surface, an anvil 23 extending longitudinally of member 16, a pressure member 25 extending longitudinally of the anvil to apply pressure to the anvil to clamp the workpiece, co-operating wedge means on the members 16 and 25 engageable by shifting member 25 longitudinally, and means extending between anvil 23 and member 25 to vary the pressure of the anvil on the member. As shown, the bender frame consists of channels 10, 11 to which U-members 12 are bolted. The wedge means comprises wedges 26 on pressure member 25 underlying arms 14 of members 12, the member 16 being mounted on arms 13 of members 12. Leaf springs 31 lift the anvil when the wedge means is not engaged. At each wedge, a threaded nylon screw 41 extends from a threaded bore 40 in the wedge through a hole in the pressure member to bear on the anvil, so that the pressure exerted at each wedge can be adjusted to compensate for wear or misalignments. The operative surface of bending member 17 may include a replaceable vinyl strip, Fig. 4 (not shown).
