1459765 Eyeleting BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 11 March 1974 [10 March 1973] 11664/73 Heading B3U In a machine for inserting a tubular headed fastener, e.g. an eyelet, into a workpiece including a raceway 26 for feeding the fasteners from a hopper 82 to an operating locality of the machine, the raceway comprises two portions 28, 30 which are inclined to each other and each of which includes a pair of track members 104, 106 and 116, 128 mounted for relative adjusting movement to accommodate fasteners of different sizes. The raceway 26 is mounted on a block 32 which is adjustably mounted on the machine frame 10 by pin 36 and slot 34 connections. A first portion 28 of the raceway 26 includes an adjustable track member 106 which is movable by pin 110 and slot 112 connections relative to a fixed track member 104 to form a downwardly inclined passageway for eyelets fed from an adjustably mounted vibratory hopper 82. An adjustable eyelet retaining plate 94 is provided at the outlet of the hopper 82, which has a spiral track 88 which is progressively inclined towards the outlet of the hopper 82. A second raceway portion 30 includes an adjustable track member 128 which is movable relative to a fixed track member 116 by pin 132 and slot 134 connections. The eyelets are prevented from falling from the raceway 26 by a slidable guide plate 120 spring urged into engagement with the fixed track member 104 and an adjustable plate 136 secured to the track member 106. The lowermost eyelet is prevented from falling out of the raceway 26 by an adjustable finger (142) (Fig. 5, not shown) and a spring biased finger (146). The second raceway portion 30 is supported by two spaced apart brackets 44 which are connected to a pivot pin 42 which is connected to a piston rod for moving an upper eyelet setting tool 24 via levers 50, 62, 64, an adjustable cam device (66), (68), (74) (Fig. 3, not shown) and levers (78, 80) (Fig. 4, not shown). When the piston rod (20) is actuated, the tool 24 is moved towards a lower setting tool 16 and when it has entered the bore of the lowermost eyelet in the raceway 26, the second raceway portion 30 is caused to pivot away from the operating locality of the machine.
