Abstract

1459742 Belt gearing BOND-A-BAND TRANSMISSIONS Ltd 19 Dec 1973 [30 Sept 1972] 45219/72 Heading F2Q A transmission belt comprises a core 12 of plastics material at least partially surrounded by a polyurethane elastomer 14. The plastics core 12 may also be of polyurethane, different to that forming the outer coating 14, or it may be of nylon. A V-belt is shown, but a circular section belt may alternatively be made (Fig. 2, not shown) or a flat belt (Fig. 1, not shown) in which the core 12 comprises a flat layer and has a layer 14 on each side. The belt ends may be joined either by heating each end with a heated plate between the ends and then pressing the ends together, or by pressing the ends together and passing a hot wire between them. The materials of which the belt is made are such that any spread of core material 12 does not affect the adhesion of the belt ends during the joining. The core 12 may be made by extrusion or casting and is then stretched and passed through an extruder to provide the coating 14.
