Abstract

1459534 Reciprocating sheet gripper GEORG SPIESS GmbH 19 Nov 1974 [18 July 1974] 50151/74 Heading B8R Sheets 19 are fed sequentially to the nip of a conveying roller 4 and counter rollers 5 by reciprocable sheet grippers which accelerate each sheet to the peripheral speed of the rollers, and which are driven by the rollers 4 via a clutch 10. As described, two pairs of suction grippers 7, 15 are mounted on respective rods 6, 16 which are reciprocated 180 degrees out of phase, in a horizontal plane by connecting rods 8, 17 and cranks 9a, 9b. The cranks are rotated by a shaft selectively engageable with the conveying roller 4 by the clutch 10 which is operated either electromagnetically, or by a cam and follower arrangement 11-14, the cam being rotated in timed relationship with a downstream sheet handling machine. A sheet 19 registered against rising and falling front stops 20 is engaged by the pair of grippers 15 at the start of their forward stroke, and is released to the nip after about half the forward stroke. The grippers 7 feed the following sheet. The conveying roller 4 is driven, via a belt 3, at the same peripheral speed as rollers 1, (2), Fig. 1 (not shown), of the handling machine.
