Abstract

1458922 Selective electro-plating of strip DR EUGEN DURRWACHTER DODUCO 22 March 1974 [17 May 1973] 12976/74 Heading C7B Apparatus for the continuous selective electroplating of a metal strip comprises a rotatably mounted wheel 9 having an insulated strip-receiving annular recess about its periphery; means, e.g. rollers 8, 8', for guiding the strip in the recess about a portion of the wheel; a flexible, electrically insulating masking band 14 and means, e.g. rollers 15, 15', for guiding the band about the periphery of the wheel atop the strip to partially mask the strip; an arcuate conduit 22 for electrolyte spaced from the wheel and supporting a metal strip electrode (25), Fig. 4 (not shown); and outlet ports spaced at intervals along the conduit and corresponding apertures in the electrode whereby on delivery of electrolyte to the conduit 22 jets of electrolyte are directed via the outlet ports of the conduit and the apertures in the electrode on to the exposed face of the strip to thereby effect plating of the areas not masked by the masking band. The wheel may be provided with pins (33) Fig. 5, (not shown) to key into notches provided along the edges of the metal strip and the masking band to prevent relative movement therebetween.
