Abstract
1458887 Methacrylic acid JAPAN SYNTHETIC RUBBER CO Ltd 5 July 1974 [5 July 1973] 29978/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] Methacrylic acid is made by the vapour oxidation of methacrolein in the presence of a catalyst comprising oxides of Ni, Mo, W and V. The catalysts may also contain oxides of alkali metals, Zn, In, Tl, Ti, Zr, Nb, Ta, Cr, Fe and/or Co, and may be supported. The oxidation may be effected at 250-500‹ C. and atmospheric pressure in the presence of steam using air as the oxidant.
