1457936 Catalyst carriers A E DRONOV N N AXENOV L I KOZLOV V P SEMENOV V S SOROLEVSKY V I YAGODKIN E Z GOLOSMAN A M ALEXEEV D B CHISTOZVONOV T J SHUMLYAKOVSKY and N S ULYANOV 15 Aug 1974 35983/74 Headings C1A and C1J [Also in Divisions B1 and C5] A catalyst carrier which is a fused mixture of at least 40% by weight of aluminium oxide and at least one refractory oxide selected from titanium oxides, nickel oxides, magnesium oxide, calcium oxide, iron oxides, silicon dioxide, boron oxide and chromium oxides. Suitable carriers are (1) a fused mixture of 79 to 99À7% by weight of aluminium oxide and from 0À3 to 21% by weight of titanium oxide; (2) a fused mixture of the following oxides, in per cent by weight: aluminium oxide 50 to 80, nickel oxide 0 to 10, titanium oxide 0 to 18, magnesium oxide 1 to 10, calcium oxide 3 to 25, iron oxide 1 to 20, silicon dioxide 1 to 4, boron oxide 0 to 15 and chromium oxide 0 to 1, and (3) a metallurgical slag prepared in the production by the aluminothermic method of ferrotitanium, ferroboral, ferrochromoboron, nickelboron or ferroboron. A catalyst comprising nickel and aluminium oxides mixed with or supported on the carrier may be used in the preparation of hydrogen by thermal dissociation of ammonia.
