Abstract

Repeating and amplifying systems; thermionic relays.-In amplifying-devices having one or more amplifiers, the elements of the arrangement, through the mutual capacities of which self-excitation, speech distortion, and " whistling " may occur, are surrounded by metallic cases, which are electrically connected together and with a pole of each battery or the common battery of the device. In order to save in the number of metal casings used, if the working of the arrangement is not affected, conductors are connected to one pole of the local battery or to the system of casings, whereby they are converted into elements which do not require protection. In Fig. 2, the frames shown in thick lines represent the metallic casings in which the transformers P1 S1, P2 S2, P3,S3, and the conductors l1, l2, l3, l4 are enclosed. These cases are electrically connected together by conductors s1-s6, and are connected by means of a common conductor s7 to the negative pole of the heating- battery B, over the point R. The points O1 and O2 of the transformer coils P1 and S3 are connected to the battery B1 over the conductors a1 and a2 over the point R, which is earthed through the conductor a3. The protecting-means may be applied to amplifiers other than. thermionic, for instance microphone amplifiers, and is also a protection against any electric disturbances due to outside influences.
