Abstract

1457616 Electromagnets; Electromagnetic switches LINDEN-ALIMAK AB 11 March 1974 [9 March 1973] 10671/74 Headings H1P and H1N A switching arrangement (Figs. 1, 2) comprises an elongated electromagnet and a magnetic field controlled switching element 6, 7 wherein either the magnet or the controlled element is movable in a straight line longitudinally of the electromagnet axis one relative to the other; wherein the electromagnet is enclosed within a non-magnetic housing 5 and comprises an elongated magnetic core 1 with dependent ferromagnetic portions 2, 2<SP>1</SP> together with non- magnetic bars; extending longitudinally so as to define guides extending laterally of the coil for an elongated longitudinal winding 4. The magnetic field F is concentrated in a longitudinal region outside the coil surface to operate the adjacent switching element 6, 7 within a substantially longitudinally extending switching zone. The electromagnet may alternatively operate magnetically controlled semiconductors, and is applicable to the locking and flow positioning switches of elevators. The core may be shaped as a U-beam, or be a composite of rectangular magnetic and non-magnetic sections (Figs. 3, 4 not shown).
