Abstract

1457520 Automatic control HYPER-LOOP Inc 31 Dec 1973 [2 Jan 1973] 60258/73 Heading G3N The movement of a member from a first to a second position in response to a train of pulses is effected at a manually selected rate of change whereby the pulse repetition rate is decreased substantially to zero when the member reaches the second position. As shown, clockpulses from a generator 20 are fed to a ramp control 21, set by a manual device 22, producing a variable frequency pulse train to a counter 24. The clockpulses are also fed to a control 25, set by a manual device 26, deriving a pulse train the output frequency of which is proportional to the velocity of a moving web being fed to a punch press, not shown. The output of the control 25 is fed to a repetitive adder 28 where it is multiplied by the contents of the counter 24 to produce a pulse train on a line 29 which, through logic 30, controls the in-feed velocity of the web through a drive 32. The pulses on line 29 are also fed to a main counter 33, initially set to the desired web feed distance signals on a line 35 and to an up-counter 34 initially set to zero by logic 30. During a press-feed operation, the ramp counter 24 fills and is then isolated from control 21 by logic 30 so that the web velocity is at a maximum. When the contents of up-counter 34 equals the value in counter 33, as indicated by a comparator 39, the counter 24 is re-connected to control 21 and decremented to provide a progressive speed reduction. When the contents of counter 33 reaches zero the web has travelled the set distance and the drive 32 stopped by logic 30. The out-feed drive 43 is controlled by logic 30 through a logic unit 44 which increases the pulse rate to drive 43 and stretches the web in the vicinity of the press. The number of operating cycles is controlled by a counter 46.
