Abstract
1457474 Wheel sets FRIED KRUPP HUTTENWERKE AG 12 Dec 1974 [15 Dec 1973] 53844/74 Headings B7L and B7C A wheel set for a rail vehicle comprises solid wheels 2, 3 mounted non-rotatably on an axle 1 by a shrink or interference fit, the median plane 10 of each wheel disc 6, 7 being flat and at right angles to the axle so that the wheels have no camber. When the rims 8, 9 are heated on braking by the application of brake blocks, the wheel hubs 4, 5 are of sufficiently large dimension to take up the resulting radial forces without loosening of their non-rotatable fit on the axle. The wheel discs 6, 7 decrease in thickness in the radially outward direction and stress concentrations in the surfaces thereof are largely avoided, as shown in Fig. 3. The ratio of the radius of curvature in the transition region between the wheel rim and the wheel disc at both surfaces of the wheel to the wheel diameter is about 1 : 20.
