1456137 Valves; pipe couplings ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 18 Jan 1974 [20 Jan 1973] 02570/74 Headings F2V and F2G In a device for inflating tyres from the compressed air supply of a vehicle braking system, the pressure regulator of the system incorporates a change-over valve operated when an inflation tube is attached to a connector. In the normal position of the valve closure member 7 compressed air from a compressor 3 passes through the regulator to a chamber 8 and thence to an outlet for connection to an air reservoir 4 which feeds the brakes via a control valve 5. When an inflation tube is attached to the connector 14 a hollow plunger 16 presses a planar surface of the closure member 7 into contact with a seating 12 to cut off the air supply to the reservoir 4 and at the same time its spherical surface 9 leaves its seating 11 to open up a supply of compressed air to the connector for inflating the tyre. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the closure member incorporates a spring-loaded pressure relief valve which will open to feed air to the reservoir 4 should pressure at the connector exceed a predetermined value. In another alternative embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the planar sealing surface of the closure member is replaced by a plug extension (31) bearing an annular seal (32) which cooperates with the inside wall of the passage leading to the reservoir connection. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the closure member (47) has an annular extension (41) with an internal sealing lug (42) which engages the outer wall (43) of a hollow cylindrical extension (44) of the housing.
