Abstract
1455802 2,3 - Dimethylbut - 1 - en - 3 - ol SHINETSU CHEMICAL CO 29 March 1974 [31 March 1973] 14182/74 Heading C2C 2,3 - Dimethylbut - 1 - en - 3 - ol is made by reacting methyl methacrylate with a methyl magnesium halide in tetrahydrofuran and optionally up to 50% by vol. of another solvent the proportion of inert solvent being insufficient to cause substantial precipitation, and hydrolysing the product. The tetrahydrofuran may be removed prior to hydrolysis by distillation, after addition of a hydrocarbon solvent having a boiling point above 120‹ C. and hydrolysing the remaining solution.
