1455757 Razor blades WARNER-LAMBERT CO 12 Dec 1974 [13 Dec 1973 21 Dec 1973 14 Jan 1974] 53760/74 Heading B4B A shaving unit for a double edge safety razor comprises first and second blade members 82, 81 having cutting edges 90, 91 and 88, 89 respectively, on elongated aperture 84, 85 extending through both blade members for locating the shaving unit in a safety razor and means 76, 77 for permanently connecting the first and second blade members together. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2 a spacer member 80 is located between the blades members 81, 82, the spacer member having blunt edges 86, 87. The three members are secured together by spot welds 76, 77 or dry adhesive. The blades may be of stainless steel and the spacer of plastics material. In order to reduce the amount of force required to flex the unit when fitted into a razor, the welds 77 may be omitted, the blade only being connected by the welds 76 or the welds 77 may only connect the blade 81 to the spacer and the welds 76 connect the blade 82 to the spacer. Additional apertures may also be provided to increase the flexibility and the width of the connecting tabs 70-75 may be reduced or their thickness reduced by swaging, Fig. 5 (not shown). In the modification shown in Figs. 7 and 9 a third double-edge razor blade 280 is located between the other two blades 281, 282 spacer members 284, 285 being positioned as shown; in this embodiment the blade unit can be reversed when wear takes place on the cutting edges 288, 289 of the blade 281. The three blades may be directly connected together without the spacers. Fig. 8 (not shown). In further modifications, more than two or three double edged blades may be connected together with the cutting edges tandemly arranged, and the spacers may be formed with projections adapted to guard the corners of the cutting edges.
