1455575 Cavity fixing B N SHEADER 26 Feb 1974 [29 May 1973] 25459/73 Heading F2H A cavity fixing for use with a screw-threaded member comprises a deformable tubular body portion provided with helical slots 9 and an internally-threaded nut portion 2, the arrangement being such that the slots extend in a direction opposite to the thread of the nut portion. The invention also comprises a combination of a cavity fixing and a screw-threaded member for use therewith, the cavity fixing comprising a deformable tubular body portion provided with helical slots and a nut portion adapted to threadedly receive the screw-threaded member, the slots extending in a direction opposite to the thread of the screw-threaded member. The nut portion may be internally screw-threaded or may be provided with a screw-receiving aperture, the peripheral wall of which is smooth or is provided with axially-extending ribs. A flange 4 and fillets 10 may be provided at the end of the tubular portion opposite the nut portion. The tubular portion and flange are preferably formed of plastics material, although they may be formed from elastomeric or metal material. The nut portion may be formed integrally with the tubular portion or may be formed separately and assembled therewith. Thus, the nut portion may be moulded integrally with the tubular body portion or may be a separate nut, e.g. of brass which is moulded into the tubular body portion or is assembled therewith. The nut portion may be adapted to fit tightly into an end of the tubular portion (as shown), or over the end of the tubular portion. Alternatively, or in addition, the nut portion may be secured to the tubular body portion by means of an adhesive or by swaging. The slots may be parallel with each other. The side walls of each slot may be parallel or may converge or diverge over at least part of their length. The tubular body portion may be of the same wall thickness over at least the greater part of its length or may be of different wall thicknesses over different parts of its length.
