Abstract

1455532 Assembling components on circuit boards; bending leads INDESIT INDUSTRIA ELETTRODOMESTICI ITALIANA SpA 24 Jan 1975 [25 Jan 1974] 3266/75 Headings B3A and B3E Apparatus for assembling a component 12 with leads 19 on to a printed circuit board 2 comprises a board support plate 1, a component support mechanism including two spaced parallel support members 6 extending transversely of the plate and each containing a respective parallel groove 17 aligned with a respective hole 22 in the plate, means to move the members 6 towards and away from the plate, punch tools 23 located on the side of the plate remote from the component support mechanism, each aligned with a hole 22, means to operate the punch tools to make holes in the boards and enter the grooves, and means to move the component along the support members towards the plate to insert its leads into the punched holes in the board. In the Figure, the grooves 17 are of key-hole section including rounded portions 17a. The component is laid on a support 8, its leads 19 engaging in L-shaped slots 18 in members 6. In operation, members 6 are lowered to clamp the board against the plate, and to bend the lead ends to extend downwardly inside the grooves. The punch tools are raised to co-operate with the grooves and pierce the board, and are then lowered so that their upper faces 28 merge with recesses 21 in the plate. Support 8 is then withdrawn, and the component is fed down by pusher 14 so that its leads pass through the holes in the board and are bent back towards the under face of the board by contact with recesses 21.
