Abstract

1438829 Attaching conductors to connectors AMP Inc 14 Aug 1973 [22 Aug 1972] 38400/73 Heading B3A [Also in Division H2] An electrical connector formed from sheet metal by stamping is folded into an S-shaped cross-section (Fig. 3) forming three opposed plates 22, 24, 26 thus having in registration wire receiving slots 28, 34, 36. Central slot 28 has an insulation cutting edge 16 at its mouth 32 and has a width slightly narrower than the inserted cable to pierce the insulation thereof. A soldering post 20 extends from plate 20, and shorter limbs 46 space the connector from a printed circuit board to which it is conneeted. Wider slots 34, 36 grip the cable insulation and provide strain relief and plates 24, 26 have points 42 to pierce the webbing insulation of tape cable.
