Abstract

1455342 Mastic trowelling tool G A OTIS 15 May 1974 [29 May 1973] 21482/74 Heading E1S A tool for trowelling a bead of mastic in a joint between two surfaces disposed at rightangles, comprises a body 12 having on opposite sides bearing surfaces 24 arranged in planes at right-angles to one another, and a trowelling finger 34 trailing at an angle from the body 12 and having a terminal trowelling edge 36 with a scraping edge 40 on each side; in use, the tool is guided along the joint with the bearing surfaces 24 sliding along the rightangled surfaces defining the joint, and the edge 36 compacts and smooths a pre-laid bead of mastic in the joint, with the edges 40 laterally displacing excess mastic away from the joint. As shown, the body 12 is plate-like with recesses 14 for gripping and legs 22 providing the bearing surfaces 24. The trowelling edge 36 may be straight, convex or concave to impart the desired profile to the bead. The bearing surfaces 24 and scraping edge 40 on each side are coplanar. The finger 34 may be resilient, as by making the tool of nylon.
