Abstract

1455311 Aerating liquids ASAHI-KASEI KOGYO KK and ISHIKAWAJIMA HARIMA JUKOGYO KK 12 Nov 1973 [13 Nov 1972] 52438/73 Heading B1C [Also in Division C6] An oxygen-containing gas is passed into a fermentation column 1, at a superficial gas velocity of at least 120 m/hr causing a circulation flow of medium, and the ascending bubbles of air are broken up by means of a rotatable vane 3, which vane offers insufficient resistance to significantly disturb the basic circulation flaw. The vane may have a plurality of horizintally disposed blades and each blade may have a number of wires projecting therefrom, or may be of gauze or wire mesh. The temperature of the medium may be controlled by circulation through a heat exchanger 6, the cooled medium being injected as a foam-destroying spray 2.
