Abstract

1454925 Flocculation of gelatinous sludge GEC DIESELS Ltd 23 May 1975 [26 June 1974] 28371/74 Heading C1C A process for the treatment of gelatinous aluminium or iron sludge (e.g. as produced in water purification processes), prior to filtration, includes the steps of first mixing an aqeuous solution of a polyelectrolyte with the sludge and subsequently adding an aqueous suspension of calcium hydroxide to the sludge-polyelectrolyte mixture. These additions of the flocculating agents must be in the order given above. The proportion of solid polyelectrolyte used is from 0À4 to 1À0% by weight of the weight of sludge solids. The solid calcium hydroxide is from 100 to 300% on the same basis. After such treatment the sludge can be readily filtered through a conventional filter cloth.
