Abstract

1454879 Feeding sheets INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 17 March 1975 [16 April 1974] 10956/75 Heading B8R Card registering mechanism comprises means for moving a card along a path, a pivoted registration arm 96 having a ramp portion 96b normally extending inclined across the path and a register stop 96a normally extending across the path, the card engaging the ramp portion so as to swing the arm away from the path, the card then moving into contact with a reverse drive roll which drives the card back against the stop. When the trailing card of the card passes the stop, the arm moves down by the action of a spring 112 to move the stop down behind the card, the arm also carrying a roller 104 which presses the card against the reverse drive roller 100. Cards 32 are piled on edge in a hopper 30 and are urged forwards against a member 81 and a throat ramp 50 by a protuberance 28a and a leaf spring 58 carried on a shoe 28 which is urged forwards by springs 44 through ribbons 34 secured to the shoe. The pile rests mainly on the ribbons and partly on an adjustable throat knife 52 forming an exit throat 54 with the ramp 50. When electromagnets 82 are energised, a roller 62 with a part-spherical periphery moves a driven endless belt 64 against the pile and separates the end card downwardly through the throat and thence between the belt and an idler roller 70 into horizontal orientation on a support 114 where it is registered. When the arm 96 moves upwards, it actuates a switch 106 to indicate the presence of a card.
