Abstract

1454774 Laminated particle board TEROSON GmbH 15 Nov 1973 [15 Nov 1972] 53095/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division B2] A sound attenuating board comprises two outer layers of flat-pressed particle board each in direct contact with an inner sheet comprising 10-25 weight% of a non-cross-linked thermoplastic ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, containing 15-45% by weight of vinyl acetatederived units, and 90-75% of an inorganic filler having a density such that the density of the inner sheet is at least 2 g/c.c. The particle board may comprise wood chips, bagasse, straw or blends thereof together with a phenolic, phenolresorcinol or melamine-urea resin as binding agent. The inner sheet may particularly comprise blends of EVA copolymers containing different percentages of acetate. The filler is particularly barium sulphate, FeO or PbO or may be various other metal sulphates, carbonates, oxides, sulphides, chlorides or silicides. Pigments such as carbon black, calcium carbonate or silica may also be added to the inner sheet. The board is formed by lamination of the layers under heat and pressure or by application of particle board slack to a preformed layer of the filled EVA copolymer placed on the first particle board layer followed by hot pressing. A coating of melamine resin may be applied over both faces of the finished board.
