Abstract

1454681 Making stators SIEMENS AG 5 Feb 1974 [5 Feb 1973] 05352/74 Heading B3A [Also in Division H2] In a stator wherein a cylindrical air gap surface 28 is defined by an alternating sequence of polepieces 7-10 and abutting circumferentially polarized permanent magnets 3-6, the forces of attraction between the polepieces and the magnets are sufficient to hold the polepieces and magnets together to form a self-supporting structure. In the stator shown, the magnets 3-6 are block shaped, the polepieces 7-10 are laminated and have air cooling ducts 25, and sets of radially polarized permanent magnet plates 11-14 and sheet steel yoke plates 15-18 are arranged on the outside of the polepieces. Casting resin (not illustrated), press plates (19, 20, Fig. 3, not shown), and axial bolts (21, 22) are also incorporated. The stator is constructed by positioning the various bodies around a cylinder 2 on the exterior of a further cylinder 1 of magnetic material, e.g. steel, the cylinder 2 serving as a centering device and having a resin repellant coating (not illustrated) thereon. Resin is then applied to fill any unoccupied spaces, and the assembly is heated to approximately 200‹ C. to cure the resin. At such temperature, any forces of attraction between the cylinder 1 and the bodies outside cylinder 2 are somewhat reduced and the pair of cylinders 1, 2 can then be removed.
