Abstract

1454550 Hydrocracking STANDARD OIL CO 31 Dec 1973 [5 Feb 1973] 60293/73 Heading C5E A feed containing polynuclear aromatics is treated by passage through a zone at elevated temperature and at a partial pressure of hydrogen not less than 2200 p.s.i.g. in the presence of a catalyst comprising oxides or sulphides or both of Ni and Cr and activated carbon. Suitable feeds are residual oils, tarsand oils, shale oils, coal and coal-derived oils or extracts. Some cracking occurs in the hydrogenation and the products are suitable as feeds to a further cracking step.
