Abstract

1454107 Epoxy resin NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 13 Nov 1974 [14 Nov 1973] 52910/73 Heading C3B A modified epoxy resin is prepared by reacting, under substantially anhydrous conditions, a diene (I) with an electron donor (II) in the presence of a polyepoxide (III) and a polar aprotic solvent (IV). I may be butadiene of isoprene. II may be Na. III may be a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A. Examples of IV are tetrahydrofuran, diglyme, dioxan or tetramethylenediamine. Reaction may take place at -20‹ to + 10‹ C. in an inert atmosphere. The products are curable by conventional epoxy resin hardeners.
