Class 2(5) Polycarbonates are made by reacting (a) a bischloroformate of a dihydric phenol (especially an alkylidene bis-phenol) with (b) a compound containing two 1,2-epoxy groups (e.g. butadiene diepoxide, butadiene dimer diepoxides, glycidyl -3:4-epoxy butyrate or diglycidyl ether). The resins are useful in the preparation of laminates, coated articles, electrical insulation materials, moulded bodies, fibres and films. In an example a resin is made by reacting bis-phenol A bischloroformate dissolved in carbon tetrachloride with butadiene diepoxide in the presence of pyridene.
