Abstract

1453904 Anchoring bolts by axial thrust; pins R J HADAWAY 30 July 1974 [30 July 1973] 34280/74 Heading F2H A fastener to be inserted in a previouslydrilled hole by axial force alone applied to one of its ends includes a shank 1 having indentations, e.g. thread 2, in its outer surface and a coating 4 of tough dense resilient material bonded to the shank, filling the indentations and forming a continuous layer over at least part of the indented area on the shank. When the fastener is hammered into a hole whose diameter just accepts the major diameter of the thread 2, the coating 4 is compressed and grips the walls of the hole to anchor the fastener. If the fastener has a slotted or hexagonal head 8, it may be subsequently screwed out from the hole. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 the thread 2 extends along the entire length of the shank and beyond the coating 4 and is engaged by a nut 5 to fasten an object to a wall in which the hole is drilled. A set screw 6 may engage in an internally threaded hole 7 to act as a cosmetic head. Instead of a thread 2, the indentations may be formed as annular or longitudinal grooves or separated indentations.
