Abstract

1453429 Photocurable compositions KANSAI PAINT CO Ltd 5 Aug 1975 [8 Aug 1974 (3)] 32754/75 Headings C3P and C3R [Also in Divisions C2 and G2] Photocurable compositions comprise a vinylurethane compound, a photosensitizer and, optionally, organic solvent and/or polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated liquid monomer, the vinylurethane compound being obtainable by urethanation reaction of 1 mole of isophorone diisocyanate with about 2 moles of an ethylenically unsaturated monohydric alcohol having a number average molecular weight of less than 3000 or by urethanation reaction of 1 mole of isophorone diisocyanate with about 1 mole of the said unsaturated alcohol and about l/n mole of an n-hydric alcohol (wherein n is an integer from 2-6) having a number average molecular weight of less than 3000. The preferred unsaturated monohydric alcohols are mono(meth)- acrylic acid esters of glycols. Optional liquid monomers include hydroxyalkyl methacrylates, polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate, methyl methacrylate, polypropylene glycol dimethacrylate and styrene. The compositions may also include a high molecular material such as a cellulose derivative, polyamide, acrylic resin, epoxy resin, polyester, rosin or copal. The compositions are useful as a coating material, an image-forming material suitable for producing printing plates, a sealing material, a moulding material, or as photoresists for etching. In examples various vinylurethane compounds are prepared by reacting together (a) isophorone diisocyanate with (b) polyethylene glycol, an addition product of glycerine with ethylene oxide/propylene oxide, or an addition product of sorbitol and propylene oxide; and subsequently reacting the product with (c) hydroxypropyl methacrylate or hydroxyethyl acrylate or methacrylate.
