1453124 Magnetic recording materials FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 7 Jan 1974 [5 Jan 1973] 00717/74 Heading B2E A magnetic recording medium of a printing a magnetic recording layer comprises (a) a temporary support, (b) a first magnetic recording layer comprising a ferromagnetic fine powder and a cross-linkable resin binder coated on the temporary support and (c) a second magnetic recording layer comprising a ferromagnetic fine powder and a thermoplastic resin coated on the first recording layer. The total thickness of the first and second layers may be from 5 to 20 microns, the first layer preferably having a thickness of 1 to 8 microns, the first layer preferably having a thickness of 1 to 8 microns and the second layer having a thickness of 6 to 13 microns. Suitable thermoplastic resins have a softening point of less than 150‹C, a mean molecular weight of 10000-200000 and a polymerisation degree of from 200-500. Exemplified are copolymers of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, of vinyl chloride and vinylidene chloride, of vinyl chloride and acrylonitrile, of acrylic esters and vinylidene chloride, of acrylic esters and styrene, of methacrylic esters and vinylidene chloride, of methacrylic esters and styrene, polyurethane elastomers and synthetic rubbers. Suitable cross-linkable resins are phenol resins, epoxy resins, hardenable polyurethane resins, melamine resins, alkyd resins, silicone resins and reactive acrylic resins. Numerous suitable ferromagnetic materials are listed. The coatings may be applied from solution by using a doctor blade or by reverse roll. Between the temporary support and the first recording layer may be a layer of a parting agent to facilitate printing. Suitable parting agents are waxes, silicone oils, polymethacrylic esters or copolymers of such esters, polycarbonates and cellulose derivatives such as nitrocellulose, cellulose propionate, cellulose acetate and cellulose acetate butyrate. The parting layer may also contain tungsten bisulphide, molybdenum bisulphide or graphite. An adhering layer may be provided on top of the second recording layer and suitable materials are copolymers of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, of ethylene and vinyl acetate, of acrylic esters and acrylonitrile. of methacrylic esters and acrylonitrile, polyvinyl acetate and shellac ester.
