Abstract

1452525 Treating blood circulation M KAWAGUCHI 2 Jan 1974 [25 Jan 1973] 00069/74 Heading A5R [Also in Division F2][25 Jan 1973] A compressed air source e.g. a compressor 17 is connectible to a conduit 16 connectible to an inflatable air bag fitting the human body, control means 31 regulating the air pressure build up and exhaust of air from the conduit 16 and bag 11, an exhaust valve 13 responsive to a control means 31 to release compressed air from conduit 16, and a valve 14 responsive to pressure build-up in conduit 16 to allow flow through it into the bag and to the release of compressed air from the conduit 16 to exhaust the compressed air from the bag 11. The bag 11 is made of airtight material shaped to cover the whole or parts of the body or formed as a mask to cover the eyes. With compressor 17 running, air passes along conduit 16 and exhaust valve 14, whose member 26 is in the dotted position with flap 29 open and exhaust holes 24 closed. When the pressure in pipe 16 exceeds a preset level, air exhausts from pipe 32 pushing lever 33 to operate switch LSa, energising relay R and turning cam 23. Cam 23 pushes rod 21 to open valve 20 and conduit 16 is exhausted. Member 26 moves upwardly in valve 14 to the position shown, flap 29 abuts pin 30 closing port 28 and the air in bag 11 exhausts through holes 24. When the pressure falls in conduit 16, switch LSa resets but cam 23 continues to rotate by virtue of the hold-on contact of relay R. After one revolution of cam 23, pin 34 pushes lever 35 to open switch LSb deenergising relay R 1 resetting the relay's hold-on contact and thus stopping the cam. The inflation and deflation sequence then recommences. Switch 37 starts the cam regardless of where the cam stops. To stimulate blood circulation, the bag is inflated for 5-15 seconds and deflated for the same time. The air pressure depends on which part of the body is being treated and for which disease but lies in the range of 0.1-0.6 kg/cm<SP>2</SP> gauge.
