Abstract

1452390 Tube coupling DE LAVAL TURBINE Inc 21 Nov 1974 50591/74 Heading H2E A coupling for joining two ends of tubing 22 each of which has a radial flange 24 provided by a ferrule 20 swaged on to the tubing, comprises an annular retainer 28 and a conductive blade spring 44 for connecting the ends 24. The retainer 28 comprises two semicircular retainer sections 28a, 28b joined by tongues and slots 30, 32, and the spring 44 may also be in more than one section (Fig. 2 and Fig. 4a, not shown). The spring may have ears (45, Fig. 3, not shown), to wedge it between side flanges 26, or may be attached to the retainer by adhesive (Figs. 5 and 6), spot welding (Fig. 7), spot welding to a plug in the retainer (Fig. 8) or by feeding one or more tongues of the spring through a hole in the retainer 28 (Figs. 9-12). The radial flanges 24 may alternatively be provided by beads (84) on the tubing itself (22a, Figs. 13, 16, not shown). A seal is made by compression of "O" rings 34 when the end nut 40 or nuts (82, Fig. 13) are tightened.
