Abstract

1452262 Pessaries DEVICES IMPLANTS Ltd 12 Oct 1973 [13 July 1972] 32914/72 Heading A5R A ring-shaped flexible pessary incorporates two metal electrodes 2, 3, Fig. 2, connected to insulated leads 5 to which an electric potential difference may be applied for the control of urinary incontinence, the complete ring being made up of a limb 1 carrying an electrode at, or near, each end, and a second limb 4 which may be cut to a suitable length so as to make the pessary fit any patient. Each electrode (Fig. 8) is a push-fit within the tubular limb 1, and comprises an annular ring-portion 11 supported by a web 12 on a body 13 terminating in toothed portions 16, which engage the bores of the tubes 1, 4. The outer edges of the tube-ends are accommodated within the ring-portion 11. A threaded hole 18 is provided to secure the lead by means of a screw (not shown). After the leads have been attached to the electrodes, the interior of the tubular limb 1 is filled with a flexible heat-curable resin.
