Abstract
145,224. Tinker, C., and White, J. F. May 17, 1919. Drying-floors.-In drying hay, straw, and like products.by stacking it round a vertical perforated ventilating-shaft connected to a ventilating airmain, valve-controlled means are provided to allow passage of air through the material from a portion only of the lower part of the shaft so that ventilating of the material can proceed as the building of the stack proceeds. The perforated shaft 3 is surrounded by a co-axial tube 11 of wire mesh &c., and an annular closing-plate 8 between the tubes 3, 11 is adapted to lift in turn a series of telescopic cylindrical elements 9 that surround the shaft 3. The plate 8 and elements 9 are drawn up by rope or like tackle 10 as the building of the stack proceeds. The passage of the air, which may be previously heated or dried, from the main 4 to the shaft 3 is controlled by a valve 6 operated by a lever 7. A number of shafts may be connected to a single air-main with a controlling-valve 6 for each shaft.
