1452227 m-Amino-benzene sulphonic acids BASF AG 11 Jan 1974 [13 Jan 1973] 01353/74 Heading C2C An m-aminobenzene sulphonic acid wherein the benzene ring may be fused to a further benzene ring to form a naphthalene nucleus or may be halogen-, hydroxy-, carboxy- and/or alkyl-substituted is obtained by reduction with hydrogen of a m-nitrobenzene sulphonic acid or a water-soluble salt thereof in aqueous solution in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst and boric acid or a substance yielding boric acid. Specified hydrogenation catalysts are Raney nickel and platinized or palladized animal charcoal. Specified compounds which yield boric acid are borates. Examples are given which illustrate the process.
