Abstract
1452161 Separating ammonia from gas mixtures CLUETT PEABODY & CO Inc 12 March 1974 [31 Aug 1973] 10945/74 Heading B1L [Also in Division Cl] A method and system for recovering ammonia from waste gas mixture comprises bubbling the gaseous mixture through an aqueous bath 22 contained in a condensing zone 18 of a generally horizontal cylindrical configuration. A scrubber 28, incorporating a means for spraying fresh water 32, is both in flow communication with the aqueous bath and also with a venting system 36. The ammoniacontaining gaseous mixture is passed upwards through the aqueous bath 22 with resultant partial absorption of ammonia followed by delivery of the partially deammonised gas mixture to the scrubber 28. The spraying means 33 in the scrubber 28 effect contact between the fresh water droplets and the gaseous mixture resulting in further ammonia absorption causing a deammonised gas mixture to flow upwards to a venting system 36, while aqueous ammonia flows downward to the aqueous bath 22. Recycle means 11 are incorporated into the system for automatic recycling of aqueous ammonia to the bath so that ammonia of a desired concentration may be obtained.
