Abstract

1528051 Continuous production of urea FOSTER WHEELER ENERGY CORP 29 Sept 1975 [30 Sept 1974] 39806/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division C1] In the continuous production of (NH 2 ) 2 CO for fertilizer, an aqueous solution of the compound is concentrated by evaporation and is then solidified, a stream (1) comprising air and entrained solid compound from the solidification stage being passed at S<SP>1</SP> into a scrubber 120 in countercurrent with a stream (2) comprising dilute aqueous solution 157 of the compound obtained by condensation of vapours in the evaporation step. Air and water thereby obtained are vented 156 and the resultant stream (2) containing the dissolved solid is recycled partially with the fresh stream (2) and partially for re-use in the synthesis steps. The figure is a flow-diagram using a two-stage scrubber.
