Abstract
1451937 Producing gas from carbonaceous or hydrocarbon fuel SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 13 Dec 1973 [15 Dec 1972] 57809/73 Heading C5E A process for producing gas having a calorific value of more than 1000 k. cal./Nm.<SP>3</SP> comprises partially combusting a carbonaceous or hydrocarbon fuel at more than 1000 C. in a refractory gasification reactor, carburetting the hot gas from the reactor with a hydrocarbon carburant at 700-1100 C. in a carburetting zone which connects the gasification reactor to a hydrogenator, hydrogenating the gas with the carburant in the hydrogenator and cooling the gas from the hydrogenator, wherein carburetting is effected by feeding the liquid carburant to the carburetting zone via parts which are cooled, the carburant being supplied in the form of a layer of such thickness that during the time the carburant remains unabsorbed by the hot gas it will be maintained by said cooled parts at a temperature below that at which it will start to crack. The carburation zone comprises a refractory wall 7 with a ring groove 27 containing a cooled ring 30 with exit slit 31 and rim 34 for feeding the carburant. In an alternative embodiment there is provided a Venturi constriction with ring slit 40 with water shells 42, 43 for cooling walls 38, 39. The fuel is petroleum distillates, liquid fuel containing soot or slurries of coal grit and water. The carburant is vacuum distillate, gas oil, kerosine or naphtha.
