Abstract

1451658 Automatic control of liquid flow SIC SOC INDUSTRIALE E DI CONSULENZA Srl 12 Dec 1973 [13 Dec 1972] 57532/73 Heading G3N Flow-rate of a liquid is controlled in respect of drops per unit time by a digital system in which the drops are detected by the interruption of electromagnetic radiation (preferably infrared) to operate a flow interrupter. In the complete system an arrangement of clockpulses and counters operates as a timer which is settable in terms of either drops per unit time or volume per unit time (using an adjustable drops per unit volume factor). When this times out a bi-stable circuit opens a valve or starts a pump 5, the bi-stable being reset and the flow thereby interrupted when a prescribed number of drops (e.g. one) have been detected at 8, and the timer is restarted to repeat the sequence. A counter may be set to indicate and/or shut off the system when a prescribed total number of drops have passed, and further counters interconnect the clockpulses and drop detector to sound an alarm and/or shut off the system if two or no drop signals occur between two clocked "turn-on" signals. As shown, turn-on of 5 relieves pressure in the vessel 1 to allow a drop 2 to fall but the controller 5 may be in the supply line to the dropper.
