Abstract
1451511 Welding by pressure LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 6 Feb 1974 [20 March 1973] 13185/73 Heading B3R In joining a wire 10 to a metal foil 11 the wire and foil are pressed together between welding electrodes 12, 13, the electrode 12 which engages the foil being recessed, and effecting a single resistance welding operation to join the wire to the foil at spaced weld locations 17. The wire 10, in an embodiment, is multi stranded copper wire and this wire is placed, together with an aluminium foil 11, between a planar electrode 13 and grooved electrode 12, both electrodes being formed of copper-chromium alloy. Current is passed between the electrodes to weld the wire to the foil at locations 17 with portions 18 remaining unwelded. The wire and foil may be those used in an alternator winding.
