1451137 Locks S KNAUL 30 Jan 1974 [31 Jan 1973] 04349/74 Heading E2A A tumbler lock mechanism comprises a rotatable barrel 26 having a front wall providing a set of key access openings 27 and housing a plurality of longitudinally slidable tumblers 29 each aligned with a respective one of the openings, and a plurality of ball members 43 located between the front wall and adjacent ends of the tumblers each ball member shielding a respective tumbler element from direct access through the opening aligned therewith. A locking member 11 pivotally mounted on a stud 12 projecting from a rear wall of a drawer of a coin freed vending machine is actuated by a cylinder lock mounted in the front wall of the drawer. The lock comprises a cylinder 19 and a rotatable barrel 26 having the key openings 27 communicating with slotted tumblers 29 slidable in grooves in the barrel and spring biassed towards the openings. An actuating member 37 pivoted on the barrel is formed with abutment portions 40 for engaging with deep notches 31 when aligned by inserting the correct key in which position an enlargement 39 on the other end is engageable with a finger 17 of the locking member 11 when the barrel is rotated by the key. Each tumbler has a further deep notch 33 for enabling the combination to be changed. Each edge of each tumbler has a series of projections 35, 36 which are additional to the ball members 43 for deterring picking the lock.
